At our May General Assembly several people expressed concern about not knowing who their Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) Single Member District candidates are and what those candidates stand for. As a result, we voted to conduct a survey of the ANC candidates as declared to the DC Board of Elections to determine what they stood for, their perspective on selected issues. The DC Federation does not endorse any candidates; however, we are concerned about the issues affecting our member Associations. And to that end we conducted a survey, the 2026 ANC Candidate Survey. The results of the survey may be found HERE (https://dcfca-anc2026.netlify.app/).
At the survey results site you may view the summary results for each of the survey questions and see each ANC candidate’s responses in the candidate guide. There was a 21% response rate where 80 candidates out of a possible 375 candidates responded. The questionnaire was presented to all the candidates via email at least three times. And we extended the due date. If a candidate did not respond it is noted with “No Response” in the Candidate Guide. About ten candidates did not have email addresses. Those candidates were invited on text message to respond.
In rank order the highest number of respondents were from Ward 5 (23), followed by Wards 4 and 6 with eleven each, then Wards 1 (9), 7 (8), and 2 (7). Meanwhile, Ward 3 had 5 respondents and Ward 8 had 4. While most ANC candidates are running unopposed, there are several SMDs without a declared candidate.
While several member delegates and invited knowledgeable guests contributed to the questionnaire’s design, the DC Federation of Civic Associations must acknowledge the Dupont Circle Citizens Association, which provided invaluable assistance and financial support in the fulfilment of this survey.
